Bookkeeper
As we all know, bookkeepers are the one who’s responsible for keeping the financial status by establishing a chart for the accounts in order to define bookkeeping approach and procedures.  They’re also responsible for posting transactions and ensuring legal requirements compliance. And I believe every business needs a bookkeeper. And becoming a bookkeeper can be an exciting career option.

So, what does it take to become a bookkeeper?

Knowledge

A bookkeeper must know how to record financial entries, process the payroll of the employees and generate reports. Their primary role of the company is to help the business owners understand the status of their company, its net worth and control of finances.

Accuracy

Accuracy is also needed for the bookkeeper to avoid some unnecessary mistakes such as recording financial entries, etc.

Vigilance

Its risk-reducing benefits associated with bookkeeping are the ability to detect fraud. There is always a chance that your business will experience fraud if you have employees or business partners. Bookkeepers will be able to spot suspicious business transactions.

Technological Competence

Knowledge in technology such as computer and software especially relating to accounting and bookkeeping is a must to become a bookkeeper. Almost everything in the information age requires technology competence.  Technology and information became a door for acquiring more skills and knowledge that you will need.

Integrity

Integrity is the most crucial trait that a bookkeeper must have. His/her integrity is where the one of the foundation of a business or company lies on. It’s not just doing what is right, but it is doing what is right despite any circumstances – doing what is right and not only what is good.

So, how to start in bookkeeping?

Bookkeeping job does not need a higher degree or a college level, it only requires at least a high school diploma or undergraduate in college as long as you are willing to undergo on some trainings for bookkeeping. Although, some companies look for educational backgrounds, you can always learn the basics of bookkeeping. There are lots of free courses that can be taken online, that means knowledge is within your reach. You just need to be familiar with basic accountings, taxations, and counting software packages such as Kashflow, Kashoo, Freshbooks.

Start small, start slow. For Abraham Lincoln once said, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” So keep sharpening your axe and one day, you will find yourself chopping down numbers you never thought you would enter into computer. One day, you might find yourself chopping down numbers that ran one of the biggest companies ever existed.
